With a fleet of over 500 heavy-duty railcars, Jeff is at the forefront of providing innovative solutions for the ever-evolving rail industry.

Meanwhile, Carrie's days are filled with creativity and artistic expression. As a painter, illustrator, and author, she breathes life into murals and paintings that tell stories with every brushstroke. She is also owner and hostess with the mostest at her tearoom, The Old Capitol Tea Room in historic downtown Corydon, IN. Being musically inclined, Carrie and Jeff also have two vintage bands, The Tin Pan Alley Cats and Rosie & the Rockabillies. TRAVEL

Brunchuary

As the hustle and bustle of the holiday season fades away, January and February present a unique opportunity to slow down and savor the simpler pleasures in life. One of my favorite traditions during these quieter months is the celebration of Brunchuary. With our obligations and commitments, a little less demanding, it’s the perfect time to indulge in leisurely weekend brunches at our favorite spots. And post brunch we sometimes tie in an extra excursion, usually hitting up the thrift stores. Some of our favorite brunch spots include Le Moo, Selena's, Morning Fork, Brooklyn and the Butcher, and The Cafe.

So far our find of the month has been this vintage salon chair. We'd been thinking of getting one over the years when we've seen them out and about but hadn't committed. When we spotted this one at Fleur de Flea for an incredible deal, we knew it was coming home with us!

The Mary Street Midden Project

We had the opportunity to see a friend's archaeology project that will soon become a museum in Louisville! It's an incredibly intriguing story. I believe every child has dreamed of becoming an archaeologist and searching for hidden treasures. I certainly did. In fact, one Christmas, I even received a metal detector because I had grand hopes of discovering something valuable that would make me wealthy! Well, Patrick Donley now lives that dream daily—though perhaps not with wealth. Instead, he finds items more akin to junk, BUT junk from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. It's fascinating! This project is now in its sixth year! Patrick found out that his property was once the site of the Louisville dump.

So, beneath his basement—with the help of a groundhog he affectionately named “Phyllis” who was pushing objects out of her way—he began uncovering bottles, pottery, jewelry, China, bowls, children's toys, medical utensils, and a thousand other “treasures” that belonged to Louisville residents at the turn of the 20th century! Many are in pieces that Patrick and his now small team of “dirt-movers” clean and assemble. It's astounding how much they've already discovered, and they uncover new “treasures” every day!

I could easily go on and on about this amazing project, BUT I suggest you check out Patrick’s website to learn more about the ongoing project, now called the Mary Street Midden Project AND the future museum.

TEA

The holiday season is in full swing at The Old Capitol Tea Room! We have so much decor for holidays it honestly feels nice to have them up for an extended holiday run. The entire tea room was decorated minus the Christmas tree the first week of November. We hosted Tuesday Afternoon Tea, a couple of Harry Potter Yule Tea Parties, Charlie Brown Christmas Tea Party, Polar Express Tea Party and a couple of Grinch Story Time Tea Parties at The Old Capitol Tea Room.

TRAVEL

Ferdinand Christmas Market

One of our favorite markets to do some Christmas shopping is at the Ferdinand Christmas Market. Always a fun visit to Ferdinand for their Christkindlmarkt weekend. There are lots of talented vendors in six locations around town. And seeing friends and running into friendly folks is icing on the cake. There are over 200 vendor booths, tons of food trucks, and entertainment - including the Melchior Marionettes. I always make it a point to catch their show.

Lunch at The Glitz

Puttin’ on The Glitz. It's not the holiday season until we make a trip to The Glitz in Nonesuch, KY (Versailles, technically). The Glitz, nestled within the enchanting Irish Acres Gallery of Antiques in Nonesuch, Kentucky, is a one-of-a kind dining experience that blends elegance, charm, and gourmet cuisine. Tucked beneath the gallery, this hidden gem offers a whimsical yet refined atmosphere, complete with sparking decor and an ever-changing seasonal menu. Guests can indulge in beautifully crafted dishes, decadent desserts, and the famous Glitz apple refresher, all served with impeccable hospitality. Whether visiting for a special occasion or a unique afternoon retreat, The Glitz delivers an unforgettable dining adventure in a truly magical setting.

ENTERTAINMENT

Battle of the Decades at the High Stakes Rooftop Bar & Grill

The Tin Pan Alley Cats headed back to the High Stakes Rooftop Bar in downtown Louisville for a special decades style evening of live music. We hosted a Battle of the Decades with hits from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s complete with some fun pop culture trivia. We'll be back for more music December 4th from 6-9 at High Stakes.

Tree Lighting Festival at French Lick

Tis the Grinchy Season once again. We had quite the time at French Lick’s big annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at French Lick Springs Hotel. The passion and love that some have for this character never ceases to amaze me. Thank you to all those that showed so much love to us at the event!

Light Up Corydon

It was a very chilly Light Up Corydon but the snow coming down all over the square after Santa's arrival made for the most magical atmosphere. We started the afternoon off with our Polar Express Storytime followed by a performance of "A Christmas Carol Radio Show" by The Old Capitol Players, Grinch Storytime, and then Rosie and the Rockabillies took the stage to help warm the crowd with some dance tunes.

Save the Dates

Make plans to join us for the following upcoming music and entertainment gigs!

We are hitting the ground running after a little break and have a ton of events coming up in the next several weeks.
