Jeff spends his days immersed in the bustling world of rail transportation as the General Manager at Kasgro Rail Corporation Management Division. With a fleet of over 500 heavy-duty railcars, Jeff is at the forefront of providing innovative solutions for the ever-evolving rail industry.

Meanwhile, Carrie's days are filled with creativity and artistic expression. TEA

The fall season at The Old Capitol Tea Room marks the beginning of our busiest and most exciting time of the year! We hit the ground running in September with a whirlwind of events, starting with our Capitol Club Murder Mystery and introducing brand new themes like Tea-rivia, where Trivial Pursuit meets tea party. We hosted our very first Bridgerton tea, a glamorous Tuesday Afternoon Great Gatsby event, a Renaissance-inspired tea, and our debut Beatles-themed Magical Mystery Tea. We also brought back some favorites, including one last Barbie tea and a revamped Curious Corydon tea party complete with a live radio show. The fall fun has only just begun!

TRAVEL

This month, we took Ethel, our trusty 1959 Rambler, out for a spin on another fun-filled Ramblin’ Rambler Road Trip! Our first stop was Lanesville Heritage Weekend, where we soaked in the charm of the festivities, and then we cruised on over to French Lick for Vintage Week. There, we enjoyed watching a nostalgic game of vintage baseball, taking a step back in time to a simpler era. There’s nothing quite like the open road, a classic car, and a weekend steeped in history!

Evansville Zoo & Flotsam! River Circus

We also took another of our Ramblin’ Rambler Road Trips - this one to Evansville. We found out that the Flotsam! River Circus, which we had missed when it was in Brandenburg, was to be in Evansville. I was not sure exactly what to expect from this little traveling circus, but they sure exceeded any expectations I may have had. This group of performers is so invested in their craft and delivering truly special memories for those attending. It was magical!! I was either smiling, laughing or staring in wonderment the entire show!

They are talented performers and put so much into their show! I think everyone in attendance at their Sunday performance was truly amazed - young and old alike. I just can’t say enough wonderful things about this little circus. This band of river gypsies and their floating circus has only a few stops left before they complete their Ohio River tour. Next year, they plan to navigate the Erie Canal across New York state for their summer tour. We may have to plan a visit to NY and try to catch them again! Great people!! They were so very kind after their show - I feel as though we met some kindred souls. ❤️

While in Evansville, Jeff suggested we visit the Mesker Park Zoo. A zoo? Are you kidding me?! I don’t care how big or how small, I will absolutely visit any zoo! It was very beautiful as it is also a botanical gardens. The zoo, like the Flotsam circus, exceeded our expectations! AND, it was only $11 per person!! And, with my Louisville Zoo membership, they gave us a 50 percent discount! So, we both got in for the $11 single ticket price!

The circus was FREE, but they passed the bucket at the end of their show and people gave freely to support them! It was an absolutely awesome Sunday!!

(BTW, some of the circus members actually travel down river on the “circus boat”. The other members travel along on the shore in their circus bus.)

Chautauqua & Locust Grove Antiques

It also wouldn’t feel like the Fall season without a some annual Fall festival fun with trip to the Chautauqua art show in Madison, IN and the Locust Grove Antique Show. Even with the rains pouring down from the hurricanes moving through we still had a wonderful time seeing the art, roaming Main Street, and just maybe doing a little bit of wine tasting.

Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular

It’s that time of year - pumpkin time! This is my fourth year drawing and carving pumpkins as one of the 25 artists on the Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular team.

I love working on these pumpkins for the Jack o’ Lantern Spectacular at Iroquois and the theme is trivia this year so you’ll have a ball walking the trail! the trail is open October 1st through November 2nd and we have all kinds of pumpkins for your strolling and viewing pleasure along the trail. They are living works of art with an expiration date so check the trail out several different times and see new pumpkins. Here’s a few I’ve completed so far!

Only In Louisville

I honestly feel like I can exhale a little bit now that I’m actually holding what I hope to be my final proof of my latest book, “Only in Louisville.”

This has been an adventurous road over the past 2 years, researching Louisville history, exploring local folk lore, playing tourist in 12 neighborhoods, and creating a one of a kind “only in Louisville” book resulting in 339 pages and almost double the illustrations. It features food & drinks, Derby, various Louisville neighborhoods hotspots and history, as well as celebrities and local personalities.

When I wrote “Lost Amusment Parks of Kentuckiana” several years ago, it made me realize how much a love local history and how much I wanted to preserve people, places, ideas, general history and little tidbits about my hometown of Louisville all in one book.

Here is just a little sneak peek at my latest book! This is a 363 page hardback book that I’m hoping will make an excellent gift for Louisville locals and for those wanting to show off their hometown! Coming soon!

This concludes our September as we move into October! Thank you for stopping by and exploring Our Technicolor Life!
